  • The Dormition Fast is from Wednesday, August 1 through Tuesday, August 14. The traditional rule is a strict abstinence with mitigations for Saturday & Sunday and the feast of the Transfiguration. This fast may be observed voluntarily but it is highly recommended for your spiritual & physical wellbeing.
  • August 6th is a solemn Holy Day of the Transfiguration of Our Lord on Mount Tabor. It is our tradition to bless first fruits and vegetables on this feast.
  • The first Ancient Healing Service in August is scheduled for Wednesday the 8th. Encourage your family & friends to come participate in this powerful prayer service.
  • Spiritual Compassion Session for Cancer Families is a new ministry that was originally planned to start in August. Two sessions per month will be held on the First & third Wednesdays of the month. We will keep you posted on the actual start date.
  • Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Mariapoch & Teen Campout August 11th and 12th. The theme is “Rejoice, O Steadfast Foundation of Faith.”  On Sunday afternoon, Dr.  Ray Guarendi will be speaking on “Standing Strong as a Parent”.  See the bulletin board in St. Mary’s Hall for more information.

Prayer List
Please remember in your daily prayers Fr. Sid who is not able to celebrate Divine Liturgy today.  Also remember those in the parish, our prayer list from the healing services and other friends who are in need. May God grant His abundant graces upon them according to His will.

  • The first of 2 Ancient Healing Service in July is this Wednesday, July 11th. The scripture readings on the prayer cloths (available at the service) help you use the Word of God as a means of building up your faith. This is crucial for accepting God’s graces in curing what ails you.

Help Needed
Anyone available to market our bake goods at the Binford market next Saturday, July 14? We didn’t attend the Binford market this past Saturday because the hall wasn’t usable for baking last week so we had a smaller inventory for the markets. They’ll be a lot of baking going on this week. If you want to help make fruit fillings prior to Thursday’s baking tell us when you’re available. Please call the rectory to volunteer.

Sid explain how the early church fathers believed and preached in the first 800 years of Christianity. Also enjoy some light-hearted social interaction.
  • The next Ancient Healing Service is Wednesday, July 11th. We now have prayer cloths to hand out to those who attend the healing service. The scripture readings on the cloths help all experience the Word of God as a stepping stone (i.e. building up your faith) in curing what ails them.
  • Hilda Skinner, the neighbor 2 doors south of the church, is hosting the annual Blaine Ave Independence Day block party this upcoming Wednesday, 4th of July. Everyone in the parish is invited. This is a family affair so the rules are no alcohol or recreational drugs allowed. Bring a lawn game, a deck of cards, a comfortable fold-out chair, etc. if you like. Once it gets dark then we watch the fireworks going off downtown. It’s a social event that you don’t want to miss. We’ll have some activities at the church between the 9 a.m. Divine Liturgy and the 1 p.m. start time so come for the day.

Fund Raising
Thanks to those who’ve helped with our fund raising efforts. Last week we had over $800 in market sales. This past Thursday we had 9 volunteers baking and wrapping rolls, pumpkin logs, pizzelles, kolachy, and biscotti, and cleaning. The last 2 people finished at 10 pm. We still needed help on Friday to finish ice cream sandwiches, cutting & wrapping pumpkin logs and cleaning trays. On Saturday mornings we had 1 person at each of the 2 markets. An additional person for a portion of the 8 am to 1 pm timeframe would certainly help. (The 9 to 11 o’clock window is always the busiest.) This is a big effort so please consider volunteering. On Saturday, July 14, we need someone to run the Binford market. A schedule will be posted in St. Mary’s hall so carve out some time in your calendar to assist this worthwhile endeavor and sign up. Remember that we are evangelizing at the same time as creating needed income for the parish so it’s a win – win situation. God bless all our volunteers and those who continue to pray for their success.

Congratulations
Eight years ago this upcoming Tuesday, Sidney Sidor was ordained to the priesthood by our current Bishop John Kudrick of the Eparchy of Parma. God grant our pastor, Rev. Fr. Sidney Sidor, many blessed years!
To all fathers we express our gratitude for the positive influence they’ve had on our lives. We pray for all those living dads who continue to instill in us Christian values.  To those deceased fathers we pray for the repose of their souls and ask God grant them mercy and place them in the place of comfort. Eternal memory!

Kudos
Father Sid extends his gratitude to those who routinely assist the parish with volunteer help. For instance, those who clean up after church socials, flowers, bakers/wrappers, market sellers, landscaping, food pantry donors, maintenance, workday attendees, etc. Although this list certainly is not complete be sure that your help, regardless of its perceived importance or high/low profile, is greatly appreciated. God grant all our volunteers (parishioners and no-parishioners) peace, health and happiness for many years!

Other Collections
Bishop John Kudrick has directed that a special collection for Catholic Home Missions be taken during all May Liturgies. The appeal funds a wide range of pastoral services. This is the final Sunday.

The rectory heating system is in need of repair before the fall season. We need your help through prayers, donations, and fund raising labor to have the work done in the summer months. We can use your help with baking and marketing. Don’t be shy. We have mentors who will help you learn these skills. Thank you.

2011/2012 Stewardship Appeal
Thanks to those who pledged to this year’s appeal. We’ve collected $1,403 of the $1,598 pledged. The 2011/2012 Stewardship Appeal, “Together, building God’s Kingdom” is coming quickly to a close. All payments on pledges for this year’s appeal must be received by the chancery by June 20, 2012. You can make a payment online at www.parma.org or mail it. Thank you for your support of eparchial programming.
