  • The next Patristics Theology adult education class is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10th at 7 p.m. The revealing material on the early church history last week was so hot that the air conditioning stopped working! Come and hear Fr. Sid explain how the early church fathers believed and preached in the first 800 years of Christianity. Also enjoy some light-hearted social interaction.
  • The first of 2 Ancient Healing Service in July is this Wednesday, July 11th. The scripture readings on the prayer cloths (available at the service) help you use the Word of God as a means of building up your faith. This is crucial for accepting God’s graces in curing what ails you.
  • Spiritual Compassion Session for Cancer Families is a new ministry that will start in August. Two sessions per month will be held on the First & third Wednesdays of the month.
  • St. Elijah’s feast day is Friday, July 20th. St. Elijah the Holy Prophet lived an exemplary life.   It is tradition that he was in direct communication with God and knew exactly what to do on this earth.  It is through the denial of the temporal world that St. Elijah received the Spiritual Gifts from God to bring a dead boy back to life, to defeat the priests who worshipped Baal and ultimately escaped his death and torture while at the same time choosing his successor when he and his chariot were taken to heaven. Vehicles are blessed on his feast day in commemoration of this event.
  • ByzanTEEN Mission Trip – The Eparchy of Parma is partnering with YouthWorks to sponsor a mission trip to Logan County, West Virginia for those ages 13-18. The trip will start on Saturday, July 28 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Parma, OH and return there on Sunday August 5, 2012. Download application materials at www.byzcathculturalcenter.org. Serve our Lord thru serving others.

Help Needed
Anyone available to market our bake goods at the Binford market next Saturday, July 14? We didn’t attend the Binford market this past Saturday because the hall wasn’t usable for baking last week so we had a smaller inventory for the markets. They’ll be a lot of baking going on this week. If you want to help make fruit fillings prior to Thursday’s baking tell us when you’re available. Please call the rectory to volunteer.

  • The Patristics Theology adult education class on Tuesday, July 3rd at 7 p.m. will reveal more amazing early church history that you’ve probably not heard. Come and hear Fr. Sid explain how the early church fathers believed and preached in the first 800 years of Christianity. Also enjoy some light-hearted social interaction.
  • The next Ancient Healing Service is Wednesday, July 11th. We now have prayer cloths to hand out to those who attend the healing service. The scripture readings on the cloths help all experience the Word of God as a stepping stone (i.e. building up your faith) in curing what ails them.
  • Hilda Skinner, the neighbor 2 doors south of the church, is hosting the annual Blaine Ave Independence Day block party this upcoming Wednesday, 4th of July. Everyone in the parish is invited. It’s a pitch-in buffet so bring your favorite covered dish or maybe a refreshing fruit drink, fresh salad or dessert. This is a family affair so the rules are no alcohol or recreational drugs allowed. Bring a lawn game, a deck of cards, a comfortable fold-out chair, etc. if you like. Once it gets dark then we watch the fireworks going off downtown. It’s a social event that you don’t want to miss. We’ll have some activities at the church between the 9 a.m. Divine Liturgy and the 1 p.m. start time so come for the day.
  • ByzanTEEN Mission Trip – The Eparchy of Parma is partnering with YouthWorks to sponsor a mission trip to Logan County, West Virginia for those ages 13-18. • Next Sunday, April 8th, our council will be holding elections of officers for the next year. All members of the KofC James O’Brian council 13850 are encouraged to attend this important meeting. The meeting will follow the social after Divine Liturgy. See you there!

Fund Raising
Thanks to those who’ve helped with our fund raising efforts. Last week we had over $800 in market sales. This past Thursday we had 9 volunteers baking and wrapping rolls, pumpkin logs, pizzelles, kolachy, and biscotti, and cleaning. The last 2 people finished at 10 pm. We still needed help on Friday to finish ice cream sandwiches, cutting & wrapping pumpkin logs and cleaning trays. On Saturday mornings we had 1 person at each of the 2 markets. An additional person for a portion of the 8 am to 1 pm timeframe would certainly help. (The 9 to 11 o’clock window is always the busiest.) This is a big effort so please consider volunteering. On Saturday, July 14, we need someone to run the Binford market. A schedule will be posted in St. Mary’s hall so carve out some time in your calendar to assist this worthwhile endeavor and sign up. Remember that we are evangelizing at the same time as creating needed income for the parish so it’s a win – win situation. God bless all our volunteers and those who continue to pray for their success.

Congratulations
Eight years ago this upcoming Tuesday, Sidney Sidor was ordained to the priesthood by our current Bishop John Kudrick of the Eparchy of Parma. God grant our pastor, Rev. Fr. Sidney Sidor, many blessed years!
To all fathers we express our gratitude for the positive influence they’ve had on our lives. We pray for all those living dads who continue to instill in us Christian values.  To those deceased fathers we pray for the repose of their souls and ask God grant them mercy and place them in the place of comfort. Eternal memory!

Kudos
Father Sid extends his gratitude to those who routinely assist the parish with volunteer help. For instance, those who clean up after church socials, flowers, bakers/wrappers, market sellers, landscaping, food pantry donors, maintenance, workday attendees, etc. Although this list certainly is not complete be sure that your help, regardless of its perceived importance or high/low profile, is greatly appreciated. God grant all our volunteers (parishioners and no-parishioners) peace, health and happiness for many years!

The rectory heating system is in need of repair before the fall season. We need your help through prayers, donations, and fund raising labor to have the work done in the summer months. We can use your help with baking and marketing. Don’t be shy. We have mentors who will help you learn these skills. Thank you.
Thank you
Thanks to those who attended the work day at the parish or staffed the farmers markets on Saturday, May 19. Thanks to those who made the delicious baked goods this past Wednesday. God grant you many years.

Congratulations!
Happy Mother’s Day to all women of the parish. You truly deserve glorious accolades for all you do. Happy birthday to Fr. Sid who thanked God for his 84 years this past Tuesday! May they all have a wonderful day receiving God’s blessings and graces.

Other Collections
For all who can and are able to contribute, the gifts (monetary & prayers) are truly appreciated by our brothers and sisters in Christ at Catholic Home Missions (CHM). We were asked by Bishop John Kudrick to take a special collection for CHM during all May Liturgies. It will be used to strengthen the Catholic Church in the US and its territories in the Caribbean and the Pacific where resources are thin and priests are few. The appeal funds a wide range of pastoral services. Info at usccb.org/nationalcollections
The rectory heating system will need to be repaired this year. Of course there’s time until fall weather hits. We need your help (prayers, donations, fund raising labor) to have the work done in a few months.
Fund Raising

The farmers markets are now opening.  This is where we sell our Eastern European bake goods and it’s also a great way to evangelize.  There are two markets on Saturday morning this week. Next week a third market is being added on Tuesday afternoons. Please contact the rectory to volunteer at these important fund raisers. The parish needs the income for various projects. Thanks.
Please note that the baking this week is on Wednesday so the feast of the Ascension can be celebrated without performing undue work on the holy day. If you haven’t been able to help the baking efforts on Thursdays this may be your chance. Check your schedule and call the rectory if you can volunteer to help with making our delicious bake goods on Wednesday, May 16th.
