Pray for Marcus Loidolt

Published by Saint Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church

Marcus Loidolt, one of the parish’s cantors, had surgery for a burst appendix on Saturday. He is listed in critical condition because of the infection. Marcus was having abdominal pain from mid-week. He and his wife Kimetha are visiting relatives in Minnesota.
Please keep Marcus and his family in your prayers. May our Lord grant swift healing to his servant, Marcus. May the Holy Spirit send down special graces upon him and his family. Let their guardian angels envelope them with spiritual armor to ward off Satan and his demons and cast out any doubts about God’s abundant healing power. Thank you Father for the healing. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Healer and Redeemer.

Work Day Goals – Saturday, February 26, 2011

Published by Saint Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Glory Forever!
This Saturday is the first All Souls Saturday.  Lent is not far away!  After Liturgy Saturday morning see if you can volunteer an hour or two to help close out the following projects:
  • Finish lining the bell tower closet with 1/4″ plywood. I have the wood staged against the wall by the garage door.
  • Building the walk way in the hall attic using the long narrow strips of sheeting that I have staged by the  garage door.
  • Moving the shovels and salt out of the rectory porch.
  • Hanging the icons that are leaning against the windows on the walls.
  • Hanging the boxes of icons in the closet in the entry to the church.
  • If the weather is good we can continue to clear the bricks and dirt from behind the garage.  We need to level the ground and remove bricks and roots so the mower can get close to the building.
Max Beaver will be coordinating all activities for the day!
Thank you in advance for all your support from SAMD!
Sincerely,
Joe Kupec

Work Day – Saturday 29 January 2011

Published by Saint Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church

Glory to Jesus Christ!
Glory Forever!
Happy New Year!
I would like to begin by thanking everyone who supported the 2010 work days. The list of accomplishments posted on the St. Mary’s Hall Bulletin board or here is sufficient proof of your stewardship here at St. Athanasius.
2011 has opportunities in front of us for many projects. Before we start any new projects we have to work on closing out left over projects from 2010. Here is what we hope to complete on the last Saturday of the January 2011:

  • Move all coolers, tables stools and canopy’s into the hall annex loft.
  • Cut and install sheeting for the bell tower closet.
  • Trim the North Sacristy (Server) closet door.
  • Clean the bell tower stairs to prep for painting
  • Install lock hardware on the bell tower hatch
  • Install weather striping on the bell tower and choir loft doors
  • Replace the ballasts in the hall lights
  • Sort servers vestments and identify those that can be mended

For 2011 I would like to invite members of the Maintenance department to support the noon meal by seeking people to bring one of the following:

  • Breakfast: Bagels/Donuts
  • Lunch: Soup/Entree/Salad/Dessert

I look forward to seeing you at any work day in 2011.
Sincerely,
Joe Kupec

2010 Maintenance Successes

Published by Saint Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church

Christ is Born!
Glorify Him!
I am sending out this email on behalf of the St. Athanasius Maintenance Department and would like to thank our volunteers for the weekends and evenings that you were so generous to donate in 2010.
At first glance it appears that our parish is small and has limited resources. If we take to heart the words of Fr. Sid, our humble parish priest, with prayer and power of the Holy Spirit we can move mountains. Just a few of the projects completed this year:

  • Substantial garage clean-out
  • Repaint the mens bathroom in St. Mary’s Hall
  • Strip and wax the floors in St. Mary’s Hall
  • Bakery storage annex and loft completed and operational
  • New Stairs built for the bell tower
  • Storage loft completed over the St. Joseph Shop
  • New Door installed on the St Mary’s Hall
  • Holes behind the garage filled in, trees trimmed and garbage cleaned out
  • School windows sealed (several times)
  • Two new ovens , triple bowl sink, and institutional refrigerator delivered for the bakery expansion
  • Bell tower clean-out and organization that included upgrading storage
  • New shelves in the server sacristy
  • Acquisition of 32 tons of lumber that can be used for capital projects in 2011
St. Alphonsus altar servers, St. A's parishioners 12/18/2010

There are many people who took the time to do the cleaning, mowing and general upkeep in this vineyard called St. Athanasius. Without their quiet efforts so many things would still be waiting for attention.
2011 promises to be a challenging year. We have windows and buttresses to rebuild, drains and downspouts that need to be repaired/replaced and buried and there is a real possibility that we may have enough material to build a proper vestibule. All of this can only happen with God’s grace and your help.
In the next few weeks we will be working up a calender to coordinate the Maintenance Department projects with the liturgical and baking schedules. We hope to have one project a month that we can come together as a community in service and fellowship.
First, I humbly ask for your prayers as we begin planning projects for 2011. Without God’s help we can accomplish nothing.
Second I request your feedback. Please list things that need done on the lists posted on the bulletin boards in the hall.
Finally, I ask for your help on any workday that falls on an open spot on your calender. Many hands make light work.
Together we can lift our hands to build up God’s house here at St. Athanasius in Indianapolis.
Keeping you in my Christmas, New Years and Theophany Prayers!
Sincerely,
Joe Kupec
