St. Phillip’s Fast
According to the forty day tradition, the Phillips’ Fast in preparation for Christmas begins on this Monday.  During this fast it was the custom to observe a strict abstinence on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a lesser abstinence (mitigation for wine and oil) on Tuesday and Thursday.  The fast is observed more strictly from December 10 (in some traditions) or from December 20 (in other traditions), with daily strict abstinence, and a mitigated abstinence (wine and oil) on Saturday and Sunday.  The Ruthenian Metropolia has identified this period as a penitential season (Canon 880, § 2).  This fast may be observed voluntarily, partially or in its entirety. If you have any questions please ask Father Sid.

Parish Needs
The next parish work day is scheduled for Saturday, December 4. It is being referred to as the St. Phillips Fast Day of Service and Recollection sponsored by the St. Athanasius Maintenance Department. Prior to work the day will start in the church with candle lighting for everyone’s intentions, festal readings, tropars, and carols. Continental breakfast served at 8 am.  Ethnic lunch served at noon. Look at the project list in St. Mary’s Hall or here.

Thank you for those who’ve donated towards a new communion set: chalice, diskos, star, etc. and white vestments. We still have a way to go so please be generous during this St. Phillip’s fasting period.

Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving brunch
The menu will reflect the holiday theme at the November KofC brunch on Sunday, November, 21. So invite your friends to Divine Liturgy and a dinner of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc.
