The New Year – 2012
“Let your demeanor, your dress, your walking, your sitting down, the nature of your food, the quality of your being, your house and what it contains, aim at simplicity…Be  a help to your friends, kind to the ones with whom you live, gentile to your servant, patient with those who are troublesome, loving towards the lowly, comforting those in trouble, visiting those in affliction, never despising anyone, gracious in friendship, cheerful in answering others, courteous, approachable to everyone, never speaking your own praise nor getting others to speak of them, never taking part in unbecoming conversations, and concealing where you may whatever gifts you possess.”  -St. Basil the Great!
Events Calendar

  • The Patristics Theology class resumes this Tuesday, January 3rd.

The Typicon states: According to the forty-day tradition, the Phillip’s Fast in preparation for Christmas begins on this Sunday. During the fast it was the custom to observe a strict abstinence on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a lesser abstinence on Tuesday and Thursday. The fast is observed more strictly from December 10 (in some traditions) or from December 20 (in other traditions), with daily strict abstinence, and a mitigated abstinence (wine & oil) on Saturday and Sunday. This fast may be observed voluntarily, partially or in its entirety.

2011 – 2012 Stewardship Appeal
The parish is looking for a parishioner who wants to spearhead the 2011-2012 Stewardship Appeal. If you’re interested, please talk to Father Sid. This year’s theme is “Together, Building God’s Kingdom.” Our parish’s goal is $1,400 – the same as last year. This money supports many vital eparchial programs. If you have not received a mailing from the eparchy please contact the rectory so we can supply you with the pledge paperwork. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Summer Farmers Market
Thank you to our bakers for making 795 rolls, 809 biscotti, 2826 kolachy, 969 pizzelles, and 96 pumpkin rolls during the summer months. Thank you to market volunteers who greeted our customers, answered questions about the Eastern Catholic Church and made the sales of the baked goods every Saturday morning & most Tuesday afternoons.  There will be a few more sales opportunities prior to the holidays. If you want to help please contact the rectory.

Candles

You are encouraged to light candles in the church. Lighted candles for special intentions mean that our prayer should come from the heart burning as a candle with love for our Lord. As long as a candle is lit, our prayers for that intention are ascending to God.  A lit candle is a constant prayer.

Each 6-day candle in the 2 stands in front of the iconostas is $3 a piece.

The 6-hour Votive and 1-hour tapered sandbox candles are 2 for $1.
