  • After today’s Sunday Divine Liturgy come to St. Mary’s Hall for lots of good food and the parish meeting. There will be a lot to discuss, so come with your ideas and solutions to move the parish forward as we mourn the loss of our dear priest, +Fr. Sid. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to inspire each of us to take action on our personal journey of theosis that, combined with all the other parishioners, will continue to make our parish thrive and be a good Christian witness to others – all for the glory of God.
  • On Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. Fr. Gregory Bramlige from Cincinnati is coming to our parish for an informal greeting. If you would like to meet Fr. Bramlige, who like Fr. Sid is known for holding healing services, come drop in around 2 on Monday.
  • Wednesday is a simple holy day for the Beheading of John the Baptist. There will be a vigil Divine Liturgy on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
  • The first Wellness class will convene in St. Mary’s Hall following the Tuesday evening liturgy. Participants will watch the DVD “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body” by Dr. Daniel Amen.
  • The Sisters of St. Basil the Great are hosting the 78th annual Pilgrimage on September 1 and 2 at Mount Saint Macrina, Uniontown, PA. This 2-day event for honoring Our Lady of Perpetual Help has the theme “Theotokos, Guide on the Journey of Life.” This ties into Bishop John’s remarks at +Fr. Sid Sidor’s funeral on Saturday, August 18, 2012. We are on the journey of life and we need Mary’s assistance to guide us on the right path to the Source of Life, her Divine Son. The list of services and programs are in St. Mary’s Hall.
  • September 8 is the solemn holy day for the Nativity of the Theotokos. The following week on September 14 is the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, another solemn holy day.
  • The next ancient Healing Service is scheduled for September 12.

  • The second Ancient Healing Service in August is scheduled this Wednesday the 22nd. +Father Sid initiated this important ministry in our parish. We can honor his memory by continuing his ministry by praying for those who are afflicted with any spiritual, mental or physical ailment! Come pray with us.
  • The next holy day is August 29. It is a simple holy day for the Beheading of John the Baptist. Next week we’ll announce when the feast day will be celebrated with a Divine Liturgy.

Thank you
It is a great honor to have known our past priest, +Father Sidney Sidor, who, in the words of Bishop John “took another step on the journey of life” when he passed away from this earthly life on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Eternal Memory! May we follow +Father Sid’s instructions to seek God always. Let’s ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to accept God’s will to take +Father Sid away from this earthly realm. God has made a better plan. +Father Sid’s job is now to be an intercessor on our behalf. Our job is to be good Christians in word, deed and thought.  +Father Sid has taught us through his celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the distribution of the sacraments, special services, the various classes, the counseling, the healing, and the stories that he shared. May we graciously follow his example to actively pray, help others and follow the path to theosis.

The parish family wishes the best for +Father Sid’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We thank Bishop John, the priests, deacons and all others who have assisted the parish with +Father Sid’s funeral and celebration of his life. We also thank Father Michael Evanick for celebrating the Divine Liturgy with us today. May God grant all many happy and blessed years.

  • The Dormition Fast continues for a few more days. It concludes on the eve of Tuesday, August 14. Use these final days to exercise discipline on your choices of food and actions. Pray more and give alms to the poor. The traditional rule is a strict abstinence with mitigations for Saturday & Sunday and the feast of the Transfiguration. The Ruthenian Metropolia has identified this period as a penitential season (Canon 880, § 2). This fast may be observed voluntarily.
  • This Wednesday, August 15, we commemorate the Dormition of the Theotokos. It is a holy day of obligation. Bishop John Kudrick is celebrating the Divine Liturgy Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. On the feast day we bless flowers (because sweet-smelling flowers were discovered in her tomb after her body was taken into heaven). Over time, medicinal seeds and herbs were also blessed in commemoration of the many healings and blessings bestowed upon the pilgrims at Mary’s tomb.
  • The second Ancient Healing Service in August is scheduled for Wednesday the 22nd. More people continue to find us on the internet. It is the Holy Spirit guiding them to our website. Fr. Sid initiated this important ministry in our parish. It may have taken awhile but we’re starting to see the fruits of Fr Sid’s and the healing team members’ persistence. Praise God!

Prayer List
Please remember in your daily prayers Fr. Sid who is not able to celebrate Divine Liturgy today. He is currently residing at Hooverwood Indpls Jewish Home.  Also remember those in the parish, our prayer list and other friends who are in need. May God wrap His loving and healing arms around all and shed His brilliant light on the path He desires for us. May we graciously follow that path with unwavering faith.
Congratulations
Cody Romero-Stanton is heading out for Army training on Monday. Come to St. Mary’s Hall following today’s Service to say farewell and good luck to Cody. May God keep Cody safe and grant him many happy and blessed years!

St. Elijah the Holy Prophet lived an exemplary life.   It is tradition that he was in direct communication with God and knew exactly what to do on this earth.  It is through the denial of the temporal world that St. Elijah received the Spiritual Gifts from God to bring a dead boy back to life, to defeat the priests who worshipped Baal and ultimately escaped his death and torture while at the same time choosing his successor when he and his chariot were taken to heaven. Vehicles are blessed on his feast day in commemoration of this event.

Help Needed
Anyone available to market our bake goods at the Binford market next Saturday, July 14? We didn’t attend the Binford market this past Saturday because the hall wasn’t usable for baking last week so we had a smaller inventory for the markets. They’ll be a lot of baking going on this week. If you want to help make fruit fillings prior to Thursday’s baking tell us when you’re available. Please call the rectory to volunteer.

  • The Patristics Theology adult education class on Tuesday, July 3rd at 7 p.m. will reveal more amazing early church history that you’ve probably not heard. Come and hear Fr. Sid explain how the early church fathers believed and preached in the first 800 years of Christianity. Also enjoy some light-hearted social interaction.
  • The next Ancient Healing Service is Wednesday, July 11th. We now have prayer cloths to hand out to those who attend the healing service. The scripture readings on the cloths help all experience the Word of God as a stepping stone (i.e. building up your faith) in curing what ails them.
  • Hilda Skinner, the neighbor 2 doors south of the church, is hosting the annual Blaine Ave Independence Day block party this upcoming Wednesday, 4th of July. Everyone in the parish is invited. It’s a pitch-in buffet so bring your favorite covered dish or maybe a refreshing fruit drink, fresh salad or dessert. This is a family affair so the rules are no alcohol or recreational drugs allowed. Bring a lawn game, a deck of cards, a comfortable fold-out chair, etc. if you like. Once it gets dark then we watch the fireworks going off downtown. It’s a social event that you don’t want to miss. We’ll have some activities at the church between the 9 a.m. Divine Liturgy and the 1 p.m. start time so come for the day.
  • ByzanTEEN Mission Trip – The Eparchy of Parma is partnering with YouthWorks to sponsor a mission trip to Logan County, West Virginia for those ages 13-18. The trip will start on Saturday, July 28 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Parma, OH and return there on Sunday August 5, 2012. Download application materials at www.byzcathculturalcenter.org. Serve our Lord thru serving others.

Fund Raising
Thanks to those who’ve helped with our fund raising efforts. Last week we had over $800 in market sales. This past Thursday we had 9 volunteers baking and wrapping rolls, pumpkin logs, pizzelles, kolachy, and biscotti, and cleaning. The last 2 people finished at 10 pm. We still needed help on Friday to finish ice cream sandwiches, cutting & wrapping pumpkin logs and cleaning trays. On Saturday mornings we had 1 person at each of the 2 markets. An additional person for a portion of the 8 am to 1 pm timeframe would certainly help. (The 9 to 11 o’clock window is always the busiest.) This is a big effort so please consider volunteering. On Saturday, July 14, we need someone to run the Binford market. A schedule will be posted in St. Mary’s hall so carve out some time in your calendar to assist this worthwhile endeavor and sign up. Remember that we are evangelizing at the same time as creating needed income for the parish so it’s a win – win situation. God bless all our volunteers and those who continue to pray for their success.
