Events Calendar

  • The month of August has 3 holy days: Aug 6 – The Transfiguration of Our Lord (solemn holy day); Aug 15 – Dormition of the Theotokos (holy day of obligation); and Aug. 29 Beheading of John the Baptist (simple holy day.) Liturgical times will be announced once Fr. Bryan Eyman comes to Indianapolis.
  • The Dormition Fast is from Thursday, August 1 through Wednesday, August 14. The traditional rule is a strict abstinence with usual mitigations (wine & oil) for Saturday & Sunday and the feast of the Transfiguration (August 6.) The Ruthenian Metropolia has identified this period as a penitential season (Canon 880, § 2). This fast may be observed voluntarily but it is highly recommended for your spiritual & physical wellbeing.
  • The Eparchy of Parma is holding a General Assembly on Friday evening through Sunday morning September 20-22. There is a frequently asked questions brochure and a registration form with itinerary available in the hall. More information will follow here at the parish and publicized in The Horizons.

Please remember in your prayers
Fr. Bryan Eyman, our new pastor starting this week; Fr. Christiaan Kappes for his celebrating services for our parish during this transition of pastors; our parishioners, family members, friends and acquaintances who are ill or infirmed. God grant your servants peace, health and happiness for many years!

Thank you
Thanks to those who helped with rectory renovations (moving furnishings, painting, etc.) and/or attended bake days and the fund-raising markets in the last week. The customers at the markets compliment the bakers and salespeople for providing goodies. Without you we couldn’t have continued meeting their expectations and providing the parish with much needed funds. God grant you many years.

  • Please remember the Sunday liturgies for the remainder of July are starting at 8:45, not 10 a.m. You’ll get home sooner and enjoy more family time together. Once Fr. Bryan Eyman begins in August the start time will be adjusted again.
  • Today, Sunday the 21st, there will be blessings of vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, skateboards, hot air balloons, etc.) following Divine Liturgy. This is to celebrate the July 20th simple feast of the Great Prophet Elijah. Tradition states that he and his chariot were taken to heaven.

Fr. Bryan Eyman, our new pastor who will be moving to Indy by the beginning of August; Fr. Christiaan Kappes for his dedication to our parish during this transition of pastors; our parishioners, family members, friends and acquaintances who are ill or infirmed. God grant your servants peace, health and happiness for many years!
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
Who is able to walk on the sea?  The story of Christ coming to His disciples in the midst of the sea is found in all the Gospels except for Luke. The version in Matthew, however, is the only one containing the disciples’ confession: “Truly You are the Son of God!” (Mt 14:33).
Feeding the Multitudes – In each of the Gospels the story of Christ in the sea follows the report of how He fed the five thousand from a few loaves of bread and two fish.
Both of these incidents came to be understood as pointing to the divinity of Christ.

  • Today, July 14, Sunday liturgies are starting at 8:45, not 10 a.m. This was necessary so that we can continue to have Fr. Kappes be our celebrant on Sunday mornings for the remainder of July. He has other commitments on Sundays. Think of this as setting your liturgical clock ahead by an hour and 15 minutes. So rise and shine earlier next Sunday. You’ll have more time to socialize after liturgy and still get home a lot sooner. Once Fr. Bryan Eyman begins in August the start time can be adjusted again.
  • St. Elias’ feast day is Saturday, July 20th. The holy and glorious prophet Elias the Thesbite lived an exemplary life.   It is tradition that he was in direct communication with God and knew exactly what to do on this earth.  It is through the denial of the temporal world that St. Elijah received the Spiritual Gifts from God to bring a dead boy back to life, to defeat the priests who worshiped Baal and ultimately escaped his death and torture while at the same time choosing his successor when he and his chariot were taken to heaven. Vehicles are blessed on his feast day in commemoration of this event.  There will be blessings of vehicles on Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st.
  • The Eparchy of Parma is holding a General Assembly on Friday evening through Sunday morning September 20-22. There is a frequently asked questions brochure and a registration form with itinerary available in the hall. More information will follow here at the parish and publicized in The Horizons.

Rectory Renovations
Fr. Bryan Eyman will be moving to Indy by the beginning of August. He has requested a few changes inside the rectory. Plan to meet after this Sunday’s Divine Liturgy to organize a work day or two to make the requested changes; i.e. moving furnishings from one room to the next and a new coat of paint in a few rooms. Susan P. is planning to do the painting but we could perform repairs to a ceiling that has water damage.
