On Saturday, October 29, parishioners and friends participated in the Holy Mystery of Crowning for Thomas & Sonia Stanton. Congratulations to the couple who were married 10 years ago and had their marriage blessed here at St. Athanasius Church. May God grant your servants, Tom and Sonia Stanton, many happy and blessed years!
Work Day – October 22, 2011
It is autumn and time to get ready for winter.
We will meet between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm this Saturday, 22 October 2011 and attempt to tackle the following chores:
- Lubricate all door knobs and locks with graphite
- Secure duct work under the church
- Change filters in hall and church furnaces
- Clear weeds from the church perimeter
- Cleanup the parish garden for the winter
- Clean out the garage/workshop
- Clear out the hall refrigerators and pantry
- Remove and store A/C window units from rectory
There is a good mix of inside and outside work so we can work rain or shine.
Plan on staying for lunch!
Sincerely,
Joe Kupec
Vigil Liturgy added – Saturday October 8, 2011
The vigil Divine Liturgy on Saturday afternoon at 5 PM has been added back into the schedule. It is being restarted as part of the regular schedule starting this Saturday, October 8. Father Sid is getting stronger and wants to start celebrating services more frequently. The left knee is healing well. He thanks everyone for their prayers. Praise God for His continual blessings upon Father Sid and our parish.
Divine Liturgy change from Thursday to Wednesday
The Divine Liturgy celebration of the Birth of the Theotokos has been moved from Thursday to Wednesday. The vigil Divine Liturgy will be at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 7th. The reason for the change is to better accommodate people who work. Also it helps with the nurses’ schedule who come to the rectory to assist Fr. Sid. Please pass the word along to other parishioners and friends.
Cookout Pitch-In – September 4, 2011
Following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, September 4th, we are having an end-of-summer celebration at the parish. More specifically a pitch-in picnic. A grill will be available to cook food. Pray for good weather.
Each family should bring their own meat dish (hot dogs, kabobs, hamburger, chili, etc.) and a side dish (potato salad, baked beans, chips & salsa, etc.) Send the list of foods you’re bringing to us via e-mail or call the rectory at 632-4157 and we will post them here so others can choose to bring different items.
Here’s what we have so far:
- Pasta salad
- deviled eggs
- veggie tray & dip
- hamburger
- hot dogs
- brats & buns
- fruit
- a salad
- dessert
- watermelon
- pop / soda
Here’s some suggestions:
- case of bottled water
- chips, salsa
- cheese slices
- nuts
- dark chocolate
- Jell-O
August 24, 2011 Healing Service Canceled
Fr. Sid Sidor had an unscheduled knee surgery on Tuesday. Due to God’s healing power his surgery went better than expected. He’s likely to leave the hospital on Thursday. Please pray for his quick healing.
Our next healing service is scheduled for September 14th at 7 P.M.
We are sorry for your inconvenience.
God Bless You.
Pray for Marcus Loidolt
Marcus Loidolt, one of the parish’s cantors, had surgery for a burst appendix on Saturday. He is listed in critical condition because of the infection. Marcus was having abdominal pain from mid-week. He and his wife Kimetha are visiting relatives in Minnesota.
Please keep Marcus and his family in your prayers. May our Lord grant swift healing to his servant, Marcus. May the Holy Spirit send down special graces upon him and his family. Let their guardian angels envelope them with spiritual armor to ward off Satan and his demons and cast out any doubts about God’s abundant healing power. Thank you Father for the healing. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Healer and Redeemer.
No Healing Service – May 11, 2011
Christ is Risen!
Fr. Sid is not having tonight’s healing service on 5/11/11, the 2nd Wednesday. He will also be out of town on 5/25/11, the 4th Wednesday. We will post the date of the next healing service as soon as it’s scheduled. Thank you for your interest. May God’s limitless grace come upon you and grant you healing as He took our infirmities to the cross. Continually thank God saying, “In the name of Jesus, I’m healed!”
Work Day Accomplishments – April 9, 2011
Wow! We had a great turnout and a sizable list of accomplishments on Saturday. This is a partial list: Broken light fixtures replaced in hall, cleaning in the church (wash pews, kneelers, baseboards, icon screen, brass candle holders, litia or artoklasia tray, censer; vacuum carpet; removed wax from various surfaces), hang icons, move stored pews into hall and back porch of rectory for use (the process included removing 40 years worth of dried chewing gum from under each pew then washing and waxing), organize items in storage building & St. Mary’s hall, cleaned & moved cooling rack for baking from storage into hall for use, sautéed onions for next week’s KofC brunch, folded Sunday’s music handout & bulletins, pull weeds around entrance of hall.
The work was performed between the morning and evening liturgies. Most of our 19 volunteers attended the morning and/or evening Divine Liturgies too!
Thank you to those that participated in our April work day:
Kupec family – Joe, Mary, Nicholas and Thomas
Stanton family – Tom, Sonia, Cody

Mike Piland and his friend Tim
Carol Lipps

John Danovich
May God grant our volunteers peace, health and long life for many happy and blessed years.
Get your rolls for Easter
On April 2, 2011 we started selling at our first farmer’s market of the season. Binford Farmers Market at 62nd & Binford Blvd on the northeast side of Indianapolis has easy access & lots of parking. At this time of the year the market is held inside so the outside weather shouldn’t stop you from coming by on Saturday mornings to get your rolls. You won’t see the canopies in the parking lot until May 7th. We ran out of pumpkin logs but we’ll have more next week. We baked a limited supply of strawberry and strawberry cream cheese rolls so get yours now. Please note that we will not be at the market on April 30th because we’ll all be at our church for a wedding!
We’ve made our first batch of paska (pascha) bread at the end of March and will continue baking them while orders are called/faxed in. Please place your order prior to Thursday, April 14th. Otherwise you may be out when you come by. Our last ship date prior to Easter is April 19th.
You can always pick up rolls, paska bread, kolachy, pumpkin logs, and biscotti at the church. Just call 632-4157 and let us know when to expect you. We’re happy to bake special request orders but it may take a week or more. Thank you for your interest and may God bless you during this Great Fast (Lenten) season.
