Please note that there is no vigil Divine Liturgy scheduled on Saturdays into mid-June. When vigil Divine Liturgies on Saturday resume will be posted as soon as we know. If possible please adjust your schedule to attend our parish on Sundays at 10 a.m.

The next Ancient Healing Service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12 at 7 PM.

Memorial Day
Since most people have a federal holiday on Monday please use a part of this day to remember those men and women who have, or are, fighting for the freedom that we enjoy. Praise God for all his blessings. Pray to God that he be merciful to those who’ve given their lives to make this a free nation. May their names be etched in the Book of Life and that they now rest in the place of blessed repose. Eternal Memory!
Stewardship Appeal
Thus far we have collected $1,005 of the $1,400 parish goal so we’re only $395 from our goal. The appeal ends June 30. In these last 5 weeks please consider how much you’re pledging and submit the cards mailed to you. If you need the paperwork call the rectory or just note on your check or envelope that it’s for the Stewardship Appeal.
Birthdays
The May birthdays are Judy Ernst, Sofia Rani Suvak, William Arbuckle, and +James O’Brian. June birthdays are Heather Yurkus, Joe Kupec, Nicholas Yurkus, Victoria Miller, Mary Russell, Shelby Sidor, Susanne Miller, and Maximus Yurkus. May God grant all our parishioner and friends whose birthdays span the May to June timeframe many happy and blessed years!

Starting today, Pentecost Sunday, May 19^th, the price of the large 6-day candles has been raised from $5 to $10 each.
Pentecost Monday, May 20^th, is a simple holy day. Liturgy will be celebrated at 6 p.m. instead of the Paraklesis.
The Ancient Healing Service is this Wednesday, May 22 at 7 PM. Bring your acquaintances to have our parish community pray with and for them.
Please note that there is no vigil Divine Liturgy scheduled on Saturdays for the end of May and into June. When vigil Divine Liturgies on Saturday resume will be posted as soon as we know. If possible please adjust your schedule to attend our parish on Sundays at 10 a.m.

Food Pantry
There is a cardboard box on the left side of the church entryway. Please drop off any canned vegetables, fruits, pasta & sauce, tuna, soup, peanut butter, popcorn, bread or other non-perishable food items so that we can minister to the poor in our neighborhood. They can also use personal hygiene items too. Thank you.

Reminder
Your parish can use your time, talent and treasure to spread the Word of God as we’re all called to do. Please make a commitment to pray for the parish and its activities. Secondly, set aside some time at least once a month to participate on more than Sundays. Come to the healing service, the Paraklesis service, holy days and work days (repairs, baking, marketing, etc.) God wants to put your talents to use for the growth of His kingdom. Say yes to your Creator and Redeemer.

Happy Mother’s Day
We thank all the mothers of the world for their important roll in God’s plan to bear His human creations and nurture them. Mother’s perform so many tasks in the raising of their families and being a loving companion to their husbands. May all mothers look to the Theotokos as a source of inspiration and ask her to shield them with her mantle in times of trouble. The Virgin Mary is also a great intercessor for all of us. We should all look up to her as our second mother.
We ask God to grant all living mothers many happy and blessed years. And to those departed mothers we ask God grant them blessed repose and eternal memory.
There are many bible verses regarding mothers. Here are a few:
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
“Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift, the fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you; you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep.” Psalm 127:3-5

Congratulations to Danny Enciso for graduating with a degree in counseling. He plans to specialize in treating those veterans with post-traumatic syndrome. God grant Danny many successful years!
This Saturday is the 5^th and final All Souls Saturday of the year. On the eve, Friday at 7 p.m., we are celebrating a Divine Liturgy for the faithful departed. Please come to remember your departed family at the liturgy with the Panachida.
The next Ancient Healing Services in May is Wednesday, May 22^nd, the week following Pentecost.

Fund Raising
The parish needs your help. Both Binford and Carmel Farmers Markets begin next Saturday, May 18^th. To produce ample supplies of rolls, kolachy, waffles, pirohy, pizzelles, biscotti and pumpkin rolls we need more volunteers. If we cut back on our selection we still need more than the 2 people who’ve baked the last two Thursdays. This is the busiest time of the season (mid-May to mid-June) when we sell more baked goods than anytime during the summer. We could also use 4 or more people on each Saturday morning (2 per market) to meet our customers and sell the Eastern European baked products. If you can help bake on Thursdays or other days of the week (even partial days) or attend the market once a month please contact John D at the parish. Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

The Knights of Columbus Brunch is following today’s 10 a.m. Divine Liturgy. The hash brown casserole is a new addition to our usual fare. Come join us and enjoy a great meal.
Our parish patron, St. Athanasius the Great’s, feast day is this Thursday, May 2^nd. Also this past Saturday, April 27, was our 33^rd anniversary of first Divine Liturgy in Indianapolis that led to the establishment of our parish. For more details visit the Parish History page or talk to Al Macek and Glen Grabow who were there. Happy feast day and anniversary! God grant the parish and its parishioners many years!

Pray for Bishop John Kudrick and all the priests and deacons of the Eparchy of Parma as they attend the 2013 Clergy Convention at Saw Mill Creek in Huron, OH from Monday, 4/22 through 4/25. May God grant them safe travel, inspiring presentations & discussions and fellowship.
The Ancient Healing Service is this Wednesday, April 24 at 7 PM. We had 2 good reports to celebrate at our 4/10 service. Bring your acquaintances to have our parish community pray with and for them.

Oh God the benefactor of our souls, Grant that by the prayers of St. Athanasius our parish patron,
We may be blessed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Grant that our community would grow in Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, Knowledge and Fear of the Lord. Grant that our community would grow in Charity, Faith, Prudence, Hope, Justice and Temperance.
Oh Confessor and Bishop Athanasius, you said, “God became man so that man could become like God.” Pray for us that we would grow in Spirit.

The annual Catholic Radio 89.1 dinner is Tuesday, April 9 starting 5:30 PM at Riverwalk Banquet Center near Broad Ripple. Bishop Coyne is the speaker. See http://www.catholicradioindy.org/ for details.

Fund Raising
The summer farmer’s markets get an early start in spring. The Binford Farmer’s Market is now open on Saturdays from 9 until 1 p.m. In May it moves outdoors but for now it’s indoors at their location at 62^nd and Binford Blvd on the northeast section of Indy. Will you help sell at the market on some Saturday mornings? The markets are a very important venue for us to evangelize and bring much needed funds into the parish.
On May 18^th the Carmel Farmer’s Market opens so we’ll need more volunteers to represent the parish at 2 markets each Saturday. Please look at your calendar and set aside a few Saturday mornings to help our parish. For now we will continue to make baked goods on Thursdays so we could use more help on those days if you’re not at work. Become part of the fund-raising team. If you have other ideas for the parish to make money to keep us a vibrant part of our community please share your thoughts with Fr. Innocenti, John or Max.

Bright Week

Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! Christós voskrése! Vo-ístinu voskrése! May the risen Christ bestow peace, health and happiness in this joyous season to all peoples of the world; especially St. Athanasius parishioners, guests, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Our renewed spirit, honed by our diligence during the Great Fast, will continue to strengthen us to spread the Good News of Christ’s victory over Satan. Let us go forth and proclaim to others the truth of the Catholic faith through both word and deed – it’s God’s directive. We have a good God and we have Holy Spirit power! Sow plenty of positive, optimistic seed to all, every day, so that we can foster an upbeat and encouraging community. As we do for others, we do for ourselves. Let’s praise God for all he has done for us.

In addition to decorating pysanky (Easter eggs), a demonstration on weaving palm leaves will be presented as part of today’s social in the hall. Come learn how to create decorations for your home with the blessed palms.
There is a sign-up sheet in St. Mary’s Hall for those who are donating Easter lilies or will provide extra food for the Easter festivities. Flowers should be brought to church by Good Friday.
On Holy Saturday, March 30^th from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. service we will be making pascha bread, hdruka (Easter cheese) and chrin (beets and horseradish) in St. Mary’s Hall. We invite everyone to come and help make your own Easter basket items on that day. This is a great opportunity to learn some secret efficient techniques. The church will be open for prayer during the entire day. So plan to “stay & watch” with our crucified Lord on Saturday even if you don’t make anything in the kitchen.
Easter Basket blessings will follow these 3 services: Saturday Resurrections Matins, Saturday midnight Easter Divine Liturgy, Sunday 10 a.m. Easter Divine Liturgy. Please stay and enjoy your Easter meal with us in St. Mary’s Hall as we eat the blessed Easter foods out of our baskets. To see which traditional foods are placed in your basket see the Easter Baskets page on our website or pick up the handout in the hall. You can include other foods as well such as wine, chocolates, etc.
Bright Monday, April 1, there will Divine Liturgy with procession at 6 p.m.
