Events Calendar

  • Today, July 14, Sunday liturgies are starting at 8:45, not 10 a.m. This was necessary so that we can continue to have Fr. Kappes be our celebrant on Sunday mornings for the remainder of July. He has other commitments on Sundays. Think of this as setting your liturgical clock ahead by an hour and 15 minutes. So rise and shine earlier next Sunday. You’ll have more time to socialize after liturgy and still get home a lot sooner. Once Fr. Bryan Eyman begins in August the start time can be adjusted again.
  • St. Elias’ feast day is Saturday, July 20th. The holy and glorious prophet Elias the Thesbite lived an exemplary life.   It is tradition that he was in direct communication with God and knew exactly what to do on this earth.  It is through the denial of the temporal world that St. Elijah received the Spiritual Gifts from God to bring a dead boy back to life, to defeat the priests who worshiped Baal and ultimately escaped his death and torture while at the same time choosing his successor when he and his chariot were taken to heaven. Vehicles are blessed on his feast day in commemoration of this event.  There will be blessings of vehicles on Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st.
  • The Eparchy of Parma is holding a General Assembly on Friday evening through Sunday morning September 20-22. There is a frequently asked questions brochure and a registration form with itinerary available in the hall. More information will follow here at the parish and publicized in The Horizons.

Rectory Renovations
Fr. Bryan Eyman will be moving to Indy by the beginning of August. He has requested a few changes inside the rectory. Plan to meet after this Sunday’s Divine Liturgy to organize a work day or two to make the requested changes; i.e. moving furnishings from one room to the next and a new coat of paint in a few rooms. Susan P. is planning to do the painting but we could perform repairs to a ceiling that has water damage.

Happy Mother’s Day
We thank all the mothers of the world for their important roll in God’s plan to bear His human creations and nurture them. Mother’s perform so many tasks in the raising of their families and being a loving companion to their husbands. May all mothers look to the Theotokos as a source of inspiration and ask her to shield them with her mantle in times of trouble. The Virgin Mary is also a great intercessor for all of us. We should all look up to her as our second mother.
We ask God to grant all living mothers many happy and blessed years. And to those departed mothers we ask God grant them blessed repose and eternal memory.
There are many bible verses regarding mothers. Here are a few:
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
“Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift, the fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you; you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep.” Psalm 127:3-5
“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” Isaiah 40:11
“If you value Wisdom and hold tightly to her, great honors will be yours. It will be like wearing a glorious crown of beautiful flowers.” Proverbs 4:4-9
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22
 Excerpts from Proverbs 31:10-31
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praiseth her.”

and “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
but a woman that feareth the LORD,
she shall be praised.”

Events Calendar

  • Congratulations to Danny Enciso for graduating with a degree in counseling. He plans to specialize in treating those veterans with post-traumatic syndrome. God grant Danny many successful years!
  • This Saturday is the 5th and final All Souls Saturday of the year. On the eve, Friday at 7 p.m., we are celebrating a Divine Liturgy for the faithful departed. Please come to remember your departed family at the liturgy with the Panachida.
  • The next Ancient Healing Services in May is Wednesday, May 22nd, the week following Pentecost.
  • On Pentecost Sunday, May 19th, the price of the large 6-day candles will be raised from $5 to $10 each. We light them for our prayer intentions whether it’s for deceased member(s) or for a special intention or in thanksgiving for God’s hearing our past petitions. These are the same reasons that a request for a Divine Liturgy is made. A stipend for the Divine Liturgy is $10 so starting on May 19 the candles will be the same price as a Divine Liturgy stipend.
  • Pentecost Monday, May 20th, is a simple holy day. Liturgy will be celebrated at 6 p.m. instead of the Paraklesis.

Fund Raising
The parish needs your help. Both Binford and Carmel Farmers Markets begin next Saturday, May 18th.  To produce ample supplies of rolls, kolachy, waffles, pirohy, pizzelles, biscotti and pumpkin rolls we need more volunteers. If we cut back on our selection we still need more than the 2 people who’ve baked the last two Thursdays. This is the busiest time of the season (mid-May to mid-June) when we sell more baked goods than anytime during the summer. We could also use 4 or more people on each Saturday morning (2 per market) to meet our customers and sell the Eastern European baked products. If you can help bake on Thursdays or other days of the week (even partial days) or attend the market once a month please contact John D at the parish. Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.
