Archbishop Basil Schott Died

You are here: Home / Latest News / Archbishop Basil Schott Died

Published by Saint Athanasius the Great Byzantine Catholic Church

It is with sadness that St. Athanasius Church & its parishioners learned of the death of their Metropolitan Basil Schott  on Thursday, June 10.  He was our shepherd of the Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh after moving up from being our Bishop of the Eparchy of Parma in 2002.  His service to the Ruthenian  Catholic church will be remembered for years to come.  His affable personality will be sorely missed. He was a great example as a man of Christ.
A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held in at St. John Cathedral, Munhall, PA at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 18. Interment: Mt. St. Macrina, Uniontown, PA.  See his obituary for other details.
MEMORIAL
In addition to requesting that the Divine Liturgy be offered for his intention at our parish, you may donate to a special memorial to Metropolitan Basil. The upcoming Eparchial Exhibit for the Strengthening of Marriage will be dedicated to his memory. Please send memorial donations to the Eparchy of Parma, 1900 Carlton Rd., Parma, OH 44134. The Eparchy will acknowledge the gifts; the Schott family and the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh will be informed of them, as well.
